IICRC Summit Conference Adds CIRI Science Symposium
The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is adding a Science Symposium to its Technical Conference, held Aug. 9 – 11, at the Big Sky Resort in Big Sky, Mont. The Cleaning Industry Research Institute (CIRI) will join the IICRC for a special discussion on a major new trend in cleaning science and disaster restoration and its impact on business strategy and hygiene practices.
The symposium titled, “The Microbiome and its Impact on Cleaning, Contracting and the Restoration Sciences,” will take place from 1-5 p.m. on Aug. 11 and will feature discussions by Dr. Gene Cole and Dr. Greg Whiteley. Read More

Beginning in 2007, the TCA Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation listed in bold print the following requirement for two-layer wood sheathing installation methods:
- face grain of plywood shall run perpendicular to joists for maximum stiffness.

CFI and Goodwill leading collaborative effort to train much-needed middle-skills workers
Goodwill Industries of Georgia has a mission to put people to work. There is a huge sign at the entry – “When you DONATE and when you SHOP, your actions HELP US put people TO WORK!” What a pleasant surprise to have the opportunity to fully understand the Goodwill organization. Michael Pryor, Director and Quasandria Turner, Special Projects Coordinator, provided a first-hand overview of the impact they have on the lives of people. The facility located in Smyrna, GA is the largest in the nation and a shining example of what can be done when people care.
Michael Pryor said, “While the state’s unemployment rate of 6.3% is a full ten points below where it was in April, The Georgia Department of Labor still reports a need for skilled workers in the state. During the week of August 4-8, in conjunction with the Carpet, Resilient, Ceramic, Laminate and Wood Certifications, the CFI Carpet Master-II Test will be offered in Fort Wayne, IN August 4-7, 2015. The test is the highest form of certification available in the carpet installation segment of the industry. It is a very intensive, three-day test of hand skills, written and verbal knowledge.
Installers who participate are required to have successfully completed the Residential I-II and Commercial I-II certifications. With the deposit of $100.00, the written test can be taken prior to the date at any CFI event or the installer may arrive early to complete it onsite prior to the onset of the testing.
