We are looking at carpet for our living area and wrap around stairs to the second floor. Is there anything we need to take into consideration for these types of stairs? The stairs have always been carpeted in the past. Thanks,

Basically stay away from polyester and get a good nylon as the stairs take a beating and will be the first to look bad. Poly won't stand up to it-a 5 year carpet at most in a bedroom. Then it is just a case of finding a competent installer for both stairs and living area.

A picture would help us see your stairs. Nylon or wool are good choices. Some steps look better with a cut berber style or plush with a fleck.
