Just to add a little clarity and avoid any confusion when speaking to the installers... The pad doesn't need to be completely wrapped around the nose, when using the cap and band method of installation. Just a little over the nose will suffice, and secured properly with staples to the front of the nose.

Bottom edge is perfectly fine. one either method of install, waterfall or wrapped, hollywood or whatever it is called in your area.

I've got to agree, I only use hair on wiltons and woven, it is by far the best you could do for your steps (if you have 20+ people using the stairs every day) it's also an expensive over kill, I have used fiber pad in restaurants and casinos, but never in a private home, I guess if you want the padding to outlast the carpet?

An 8lb rebond pad is the way to go.

I've always called them cap and band...

Your installer will probably do an outstanding job on your installation, just make sure they bring a power stretcher with them....and use it!

I do 2 re-stretches per day, I think I may be the only carpet installer in Albuquerque that owns a power stretcher!

All you have to do is ask if the installers will power stretch the carpet.
