More turmoil coming this weekend. We will be shutting down early Saturday morning to convert from this forum software to something very different.

Yeah, I know, no one likes change. But change happens and I hope, after a short period of adjustment, you will like the changes we make. I will work hard to make the transition as painless as possible. We will start out by having a similar look, but a lot of things will be different. I hope you will see that those differences are easy enough to overcome. Do let me know if you need help with anything.

Well you are getting through to Norfolk Island

You're right Jim, nobody likes changes. At first anyways.

I'm sure we'll all be fine, as flooring professionals we endure changes all the time. From changes in products to installation instructions and standards to regulations. It goes on and on. Those who read the new instructions, standards and the like, prosper and grow.

Keep up the good work, Jim.

I sure hope none of you are having as much difficulty as I have. I decided to open the forum, even though there is still a ton of work to be done. If you are having trouble and you can't live with it for a little while longer, post a reply here and I'll do my best to fix it.

I keep telling myself, it's gonna be worth it. Really. :)

On my quick access screen, whatever it's called, near the bottom left is TFP. It says xen foro. Before the changeover sometimes it was blank, sometimes the TFP logo, it fluctuated. I think it fluctuates still, but now it's mostly this one.

I lost my picture upload option. I can get media pictures and URL ? Does a number go in the blank space? No box below for the saved photos.

Yeah, whatever it's called... I don't know what you're talking about. What is a quick access screen? Our logo is in the lower-right corner. The left corner, at the very bottom of the screen, is the forum software copyright. It also links to the website of the developer. I don't like that copyright or the link, but it costs $250.00 to remove it.

Anyway, it doesn't fluctuate. Our logo doesn't fluctuate. And the footer of this software doesn't look anything like the footer of the old software. Similar color scheme, that's all. I felt I had to do that so that people would still recognize the place. Not that I gave much thought to a new color scheme. I tried that before, a long time ago. In fact, I have 4 different color schemes, but none of them was liked very much by anyone. Those few who said they did like one of them, didn't seem to notice when I removed them.

Are you saying you don't see this:

Or are you talking about this:

And when you click that, you see this:

That box is for a URL - an address to an image on the Interweb (not the page it's on, but the actual image, which address ends with .jpg, .gif, .png, etcetera. The address would look something like That's how you can show a photo that is located somewhere else on the web. That works a whole lot better on this software because really big images won't break the layout like they did on the old software. The forum software automatically resizes the photo and also lets you click it to see the full size. It's pretty cool, but I still want to encourage members to use our upload system. That's because most linked images come from those free hosting photo sites like Photobucket. They limit the bandwidth and will make an image disappear so it's not available to people reading the topic months or years from now. Uploaded pictures should be here forever.

The first answer, just "post reply" and "more options" are the choices. And the options turns into a choice of that url (yup, earl) but no photo upload and various other choices. I thought post and come back to edit and add photo, but upload was not there either.

So you fixed it for reply, but my upload photo feature was removed. Not sure if it's only this post or throughout.

Quick access would be the home screen? You can click on, like the apps symbols.

Well, I'm sorry for all the hassle. Like I said, those permissions for the various groups (you belong to Registered, Professional, Supporting & Senior) is a real pain in the ass. I'm hoping, along with most other webmasters I hear from, that the next major version of the software will have some big improvements in the permissions options. You should now see the photo upload button below.

I hope that anyone who feels there is something missing in one of the forums you frequent, like the Upload Photos or PDF button or anything else, please let me know.

    Are the random listings gone?

I use to tap on the company listings when they came up to browse, say like Gundlach, Armstrong, whoever, but now I can't find them even by typing in their name under searches. Probably not looking in right spot, but there were tons of listings and background info.

It may have seemed like tons to you, but it was a very meager directory with too little participation. Still, I would have converted it to something else, if anything decent was available. It was one of the reasons the whole switch took so long - I wanted to have something those who did use the directory could use.

But all is not lost. Our members have options in their profiles now that will allow them to use it like a directory. Everything about this new software invites more search engine traffic and indexing. I have configured the system to allow unregistered visitors (which includes search bots) to view profiles, but each member has options available to allow only certain information to be visible to them.

Have you checked out all the options available in your user CP?

I've been gone for a while (changed companies - still in flooring though), and I come back to this! Everything looks great except the pictures aren't sideways anymore.

I don't see a whole page with all things listed on smartphone. Things moving around, ads, all topics since new software.

This is part of claustrophobic view I've been having. Tried open in Safari, still only scrolls down narrow phone width.
  19. Jim McClain

    Jim McClain Owner/Founder Administrator

I'm not sure I get exactly what you said there. What moves around? Nothing on the site moves except maybe an animated ad once in a while. If you mean that topics have been moved to different forums, then you have to be more specific. I move topics to appropriate forums now just as I did with the old software. Nothing different about that.

What you might see that is different is the difference between the old software's inability to drop the sidebar below the main content so that everything is easier to read. With the new software, the sidebar is a sidebar (2 columns, one the main content, the other the narrower column with "extra" content and ads) when viewed on any device with a large tablet or laptop screen or larger. On smaller devices, like a smartphone or small tablet, the sidebar drops to below the main content, making it a single column page. It's all still there, but you have to scroll more to see it. Scroll with your finger, a stylus or click the up/down arrows in the lower-right corner of any page - clicking those arrows will take you to the very bottom or the very top of a page.

I don't know what claustrophobic means to you, but on a mobile device and the old software, THAT was a claustrophobic view. Everything was crowded onto the screen and the type was so tiny I had to enlarge everything to read it. It's not like that at all now. I can read everything without enlarging the page.

Maybe I just don't get what you mean. Please rephrase it or explain with more detail. If there's a real problem, I definitely want to fix it. But going back to the old software, or making this software look like the old, ain't gonna happen.

This is what I get when google TFP,
Then I scroll down and see the next picture. Not all the options.
