CCA GLOBAL SPONSORS CFI INSTALLATION TRAINING and CERTIFICATION
From the desk of J. Walker:

For two days in June, flooring installers had the opportunity to attend a CFI Training and Certification for Carpet in Union City, CA at the Shaw Distribution Facility. Carpet One has been sponsoring CFI events throughout the nation for several years under the leadership of Robert Varden, CFI Executive Director.

The training included installation techniques and requirements for a CFI Residential Certification. Varden demonstrated the CFI Proven Methods of Installation, including, seam construction; pattern matching; powerstretching; stair upholstery and other techniques.

leigh-bakhtiari.jpg Leigh Bakhtiari of Carpet One Floor and Home, a Diamond Certified firm by Carpet One located in San Rafael, CA was instrumental in coordinating the event attended the three sessions, June 17-19, 2015. She also received the CFI Technical Certification. The CFI Technical Certification is available for dealers, sales personnel and others who are not part of the installation community. Those who receive this certification must attend the entire event and complete the written portion of the test. This provides a better understanding of the requirements of professional installation and also opens lines of communication with the installers and the customers.

Bakhtiari has been involved in the floor covering industry since 1993 when she started City Carpets in San Rafael, CA. with her husband Hossein. In 1998 Leigh received a C-15 flooring license from the Contractor’s State License Board. She is the current and past president of the Redwood Empire Floor Covering Association and has served on advisory councils to Stainmaster and Gulistan Carpet Mills. She is a Certified Floor Covering Executive through the World Floor Covering Association, Regional Network Coordinator with Carpet One and recently became a Certified Floorcovering Installer Tech. Bakhtiari is a dealer who believes in providing the finest customer service available.

Ms. Bakhtiari stated, “Even the most experienced installer learned a few new tricks from Robert Varden and Jonathan Varden of CFI. I am grateful to Carpet One for extending this training to our members and to CFI for a first-rate certification course. It is worth the time and expense of having an installer off the floor for the days of training and certification.”

Varden said, “The installers had the opportunity to display their skills working with various types of carpet to align patterns and understanding how to work with pattern tolerances; construct seams, powerstretch and trim the installed carpet in the modules. This group exhibited pride in their completed work and were anxious to achieve their CFI Certification. It is very rewarding to work with installers who share our appreciation of the skills required for this trade.”

Cullen Gordon was the host at Shaw and provided space in the facility for the event. Lunch was sponsored by Shawn Mehr, also of Shaw.

Carpet installers were in attendance from 6 Carpet One retail establishments located throughout northern California. They were anxious to learn new ideas that were shared by the CFI Team and achieved their CFI Certification by displaying their skills.

At the conclusion of the event, a written test was administered that included required installation techniques, OSHA and EPA requirements and customer service skills.

Well done, good for that lady with all her training, now how much easier that makes others jobs when someone at the upper level knows the intricacies of the flooring trade.

Carpet One, seems to be getting pretty strong in the industry, I heard about it maybe 15 years ago, I heard it was a buying group for carpet, what's the particulars of this franchise? Type company?
