- I entered the floor covering trade in 1972. I joined the union in San Jose Ca Local 1288. I graduated from the apprenticeship program in 1974. I have been installing carpet, vinyl, soft tile and other products that have come into existence since then. I have been installing for 38 years now and still going strong. I am a solo artist, working alone with no help. I also do carpet binding which I have been doing professionally the past 5 years.
